After a first appearance at the 1908 Games in London, hockey became a firm fixture on the Olympic programme as from the Antwerp Games in 1920.
Women made their entrance in this sport in 1980 at the Moscow Games.
Archery was the favourite sport of the Egyptian pharaohs during the 18th dynasty (1567-1320 BC).
Many centuries later, some of the earliest recorded archery tournaments took place during the Zhou (Chou) dynasty (1027- 256 BC) in China. Much later, English writers honoured the longbow for famous contributions to their country’s victories in the battles of Crécy, Agincourt and Poitiers.
The first team was the Blackheath Hockey Club, dating back to 1861.
